Wow, it’s already May and this year has not gone as any of us expected. I won’t go into the doom and gloom, as the news is constantly pounding that out, but instead, I want to share a gloom and doom antidote that actually works.
Antidote: Something that counteracts an unpleasant situation. “Laughter is a good antidote to stress.” Oxford English Dictionary
The best way you can help people in need, is not to be someone in need. And the best way to do that is to realize you can create your own feelings and emotions.
I made a choice yesterday, not to be mad at my neighbor, whose cigarette smoke has been drifting into my yard and into my house. I was initially very annoyed at her, and even played our music extra loud to “pay her back.” But this was only making me feel worse, so I decided to create my own feelings and be willing to talk to her about the smoke. I went over to her house and honestly told her about the cigarette smoke, adding that she was a great neighbor and we wanted to work out a solution. She had no idea her smoke was going into our yard and house and wanted to work out a solution. And we did.
So here is a poem that contains the ultimate gloom and doom antidote to apply during these crazy times. I have used this all my life and hope you’ll use it to be strong and in control of your life!
The Joy of Creating
Force yourself to smile
And you’ll soon stop frowning.
Force yourself to laugh and you’ll soon find something to laugh about.
Wax* enthusiastic and you’ll very soon feel so.
A being* causes his own feelings.m
The greatest joy there is in life is creating.
Splurge on it!
L. Ron Hubbard
*wax: grow larger / *being: a human being
